About Consumer Credit
Consumer Credit is an independent consumer information service. We help people across the UK understand money and make better financial decisions with clear, impartial information.
Our mission
We believe good financial decisions start with clear, trustworthy information. Our mission is to explain money — credit, banking, insurance, mortgages, pensions and debt — in plain English, so you can weigh up your options with confidence.
What we do
We explain financial topics, set out your rights and protections, and point you to official sources so you can verify things for yourself. We are an information service — we are not a regulator, and we do not provide regulated financial advice or sell financial products.
How we work
We research authoritative UK sources — including the Financial Conduct Authority, GOV.UK, the Financial Ombudsman Service, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme and MoneyHelper — and write our guidance in our own words, in plain English. We cite our sources and record when each page was last reviewed, because financial rules and figures change.
Independent and impartial
Our guidance is not influenced by financial firms. Where it helps, we link to official public records — such as the FCA Register and the FSCS — rather than asking you to simply take our word for it.
Contact us
We welcome feedback on our guidance, including anything you think is unclear or out of date. Our contact channels will be published here. We cannot give personalised financial advice — for that, speak to an appropriately authorised firm or a free service such as MoneyHelper.
